Long Island to Congress: Bring Them Home!

On Friday afternoon Long Island peace activists will visit the local offices of three U.S. representatives to call on them to reverse course and to oppose the war in Iraq.

This action follows a similar protest last week at the Melville, Long Island offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton.

The Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives and the Suffolk Peace Network, South Country Peace Group and others plan to tell the representatives:

"We ask you to recant your vote for the war. We ask you to give voice and support to bringing the troops home now. How many more have to die? "

The activists plan to read the names of the dead US Soldiers in the Iraq war who number more than 1800.

In Suffolk County the action will take place between 4 and 6 pm in Coram at the Route 112 office of Timothy Bishop who represents the 1st Congressional District. ( contact Susan McKeon at 631-281 0055 for information on this action.)

In Nassau County the action will be start at 2 pm at the Garden City office of Caroline McCarthy at 200 Garden City Plaza and in Queens at 2pm at the Bayside office of Gary Ackerman
at 218-14 Northern Boulevard. Ackerman's district covers parts of Queens and Nassau County Long Island. All three representatives are Democrats.

During last week's action in Melville, Senator Schumer's staff promised that protesters would be given a chance to meet with the Senator according to Bill McNulty of Setauket, one of the organizers of that action. No meeting has been scheduled so far.
