January 5 (Friday): PeaceSmiths monthly Folk Music, Poetry and Whatever Coffeehouse in Amityville at 8:30 pm

It is going to be a “People’s Cabaret” with songs by Irving Berlin,
Woody Guthrie, Stephen Foster and others when the Jeannie Litt & David
Alpher Cabaret Duo* of Stone Ridge appear at PeaceSmiths.

A political speech as “Professor Demeritus,” for which he is popular
satirizing lawmakers, will be delivered by Herbert Robb, Long Beach,
actually Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Educational Psychology at
Pace University, New York.

After taking a several-year hiatus from giving poetry readings to concentrate on Green Party politics, Ian Wilder, North Babylon, will be at the PeaceSmith’s microphone with his work, joined by several musician friends.

Afterwards there will be open time for audience members to perform.

At First United Methodist Church 25 Broadway/Route 110 near Montauk Hwy/Merrick Rd, Amityville. The last church on the left!

January 6 (Saturday): Vigil to Mourn War Dead in Hauppage 4 to 6 pm

A TIME TO MOURN: On Saturday, January 6 there will be a silent candlelight vigil from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Armed Forces Plaza, Veterans Highway in Hauppauge. The vigil will mourn those killed in Afghanistan,
in Iraq, and all wars. Details available at afsc.org/3000

On Saturday, January 6 there will be a candlelight vigil,
from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Gazebo Park, opposite IGA on Main Road in Southold. The vigil will mourn those killed in Afghanistan, in Iraq, and all wars.

January 7 (Sunday): East End Women in Black Peace Vigil in Bridgehampton 3pm

East End Women in Black will vigil to mourn the dead of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and Palestine at 3pm in Bridgehampton at the flagpole. The group has been vigiling since August 2002 to call for the
end of the occupation of Palestine and against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We call for the end to violence on all sides.

January 15 (Monday): M.L.King Jr. Annual Breakfast in Islandia at 8 am

On Monday, January 15, 2007, the First Baptist Church of Riverhead will sponsor its twenty-second annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast. The celebration will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch Hotel in Islandia, New York.

Among those honored will be Cynthia Richardson, Long Island Director of the Urban League and Peter C. Saros, Founding Member of the Long Island Organizing Network (LION).

January 27 (Saturday): March on Washington - United for Peace & Justice - East End Transportation

Riverhead:

North Fork People of Conscience have arranged for a bus from Riverhead to the March on Washington sponsored by United for Peace & Justice. We will be boarding at 5am in the parking lot behind Greenearth Grocery on East Main Street and leaving shortly after that. We will return about midnight. tickets $40.children, students half price; subsidies available.

The exact pick up time and pick up locations have not been determined yet, but if you want to be sure that you have a seat on the 55 seat Classic Coach bus we are using, please send your check in the amount of $35.00 to SCPG member

The check should be written out to South Country Peace Group Inc. Please send your telephone number with the check so that we may be able to contact you to confirm and in case of changes.

Please be advised however that your check will not be refundable in the event you are unable to go. This is because the SCPG has a monetary commitment to the bus company as stated in our contract with them.

"Bush is a Liar Choir" rehearses in Lindenhurst from 7 to 9pm

Join political action singing group. Participate in songs regarding environment, anti-war, labor, multiculturalism, civil rights, and other issues. Sing historic songs of struggle and social change. Explore the role of music in political movements. Experience singing musical arrangements, in four part harmony. Perform these songs for others. Contribute to the progressive movement while becoming culturally enriched. If you've ever wanted to be in a singing group, now is your chance! Experienced and non-experienced singers are welcome. All we ask is that you are able to sing on pitch.

Rehearsals take place, Sunday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 in Lindenhurst.

"Herstory" Writing Workshops in Spanish and English

Mondays in Farmingville:Herstory Writers Workshop meets every Monday afternoon at the Farmingville branch of the Workplace Project from 3 to 5. Both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking women come together to share and shape their life experiences through memoir writing. The workshop is conducted in both English and Spanish. Thursdays in East Hampton: Every Thursday Spanish-speaking women come together to share their writing with one another and receive feedback on how to structure and shape their lifewriting. The East Hampton workshop is open to East Hampton Town residents and is conducted entirely in Spanish. It meets every Thursday, 7-9 p.m., at the Senior Citizens Center, 128 Springs-Fireplace Road.
