Update on Jim Banks

Jim Banks of the Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs at Suffolk Community College suffered a heart attack on Sunday June 1 prior to the college commencement. Jim is a member of the Southampton Anti-Bias Task Force and the Coalition for a Worklink Center in Southampton.

The following information was sent from the College by Cynthia Richardson.

June 4:

Jim Banks was transferred to Montefiore Hospital where he will be receiving a partial heart transplant.

Please continue to keep Jim and his family in your thoughts and prayers

June 2:

from Dr. Evon Walters, Executive Dean:

Our Friend and colleague, Jim Banks, College-wide Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs, suffered a heart attack prior to Commencement yesterday morning. Jim was admitted to North Shore hospital where he underwent major by-pass surgery. Despite concerns from his doctors, Jim managed to make it through the surgery, but he is not responding well to the treatment and his doctors are concerned. Should Jim not respond to medications by the end of today, his doctors are considering a partial to complete heart transplant.

Jim is a strong man and a strong believer in the power of love and faith. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We will keep the college community updated on his condition as we receive updates from his family.
