East End Women for Obama

UPDATED 25 October

Dear Friends, Neighbors, Sisters and Brothers:

On September 21, on a moment's notice, more than 450 women, and some men and children, stood together in a field in Sagaponack, NY, in support of Barack Obama's historic presidency, as people have been doing throughout the country in this amazing campaign - in living rooms, backyards, community centers and on the streets.

What shone through was the passion and urgency for meaningful, historic change, the spirit of community, and the power of women's voices. Everyone pitched in, with equipment, music, skills, ideas, clipboards, parking…

Money was raised on the spot for Vote Today Ohio, people made plans to canvass in other states, and within days a 3 minute video was produced and put on You Tube, along with testimonies posted on VoterMoms.com. Sunday, October 19, the video was one of ten, chosen from over 150 by CNN I-reports to be shown at the Hamptons International Film Festival.

Many of us have traveled to battleground states, attended and hosted other events, phoned, written, met and schemed about how to assure a victory.

We feel it is imperative to record more women's voices to document this historic moment. In fact we wish we could include voices from women around the world, whose lives will be so deeply affected by what happens in this country on November 4th.

We invite you to join EAST END WOMEN FOR OBAMA TAKE 2. We will tape more women for a documentary that will tell what the women from one community have to say as we approach the election of our lives. Please circulate this to anyone you believe would wish to be heard. (We've had trouble with the group list we created after the first taping and need help getting the word out.) We will begin the interviews on Sunday, October 26th from 2-5 p.m. and make a schedule to continue throughout the following week. We want to include as many women of different ages, experiences, backgrounds as possible. We will continue to offer information on campaign needs and encourage everyone who can to travel to battleground states in the last days and to continue phoning.
