The School of the Americas (renamed "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation") is a military school in Ft. Benning, Ga. where, using US taxpayers dollars, soldiers from Latin American countries are trained in "counterinsurgency". Results of this training are visible throughout Latin America, where graduates of the SOA have been some of the worst violators of human rights, including bloody dictators, from Argentina and Chile to Central America and the Caribbean.
From April 23 to 25 SOA Watch calls for nationwide mobilizations and fasts to demand that Representatives in Congress support HR1707 to close and investigate the SOA.
Long Island SOA Watch and other organizations have been asking Representative Peter King to support such legislation for years.
