Native American Burial Site in Water Mill
Human remains believed to be from an ancient Native American burial site were unearthed last week at a construction site in Water Mill. Construction at the location, formerly the Hotel St. James on Route 27 has been halted pending a report of the County Medical Examiner and re-burial of the remains on the site under the supervision of the Inter-Tribal Historic Preservation Task Force according to Elizabeth Thunder Bird Haile of the group.

The Padoquohan Medicine Lodge,Inc. on the Shinnecock Reservation have been raising funds to provide safe warm housing for 3 generations of one family now living in an unsafe trailer home on the Reservation.
Funds are still needed but this past week, thanks to a donation, the foundation was dug for the house which will be moved to the site. Twenty thousand dollars are still needed to cover the cost of moving the house donated by local builder, Michael White,

Veterans Speaker & Advocacy Bureau
The LI Veterans For Peace Chapter 138 has formed a Veterans Speaker & Advocacy Bureau to provide speakers to Long Island educators "who recognize the importance and educational value of augmenting their history, social studies, literature, etc. curricula with relevant oral histories of those who have personally experienced war."
Their aim is to inform students of the realities of war, it is not a political agenda.
