November 25:
The Padoquohan Medicine Lodge,Inc., a 501 (c) (3) organization, has a tradition of giving help to women raising families on the Shinnecock Reservation. This has included renovating homes enabling them to live safely.
They need to help one such woman, now a grandmother, to have a safe and warm house for this winter. The family, three generations, have been living in un-safe conditions.
Funds are needed to move and establish a house that has been donated by local builder, Michael White. Other contributions of cash and of building supplies , labor (including the construction of a foundation and driveway) have been received. Now about half the goal has been met.
According to a letter sent by the Padoquohan Medicine Lodge:
"several tribal members who have given generously in the past, find themseles unable to contribute this year at previous levels. As you may know, there are several law suits currently being waged against the Shinnecock Tribe. These assaults on our tribe directly affect the financial well-being of our whole community."
Any help will be appreciated!
