May 3 (Wednesday): South Country School Board To Hear Student Re Military Recruiting in High School at 7:30pm
John Morgan, a 10th grader at Bellport High School will address the South Country Board of Education about his concerns of mililtary recruiters in his school on Wednesday, May 3rd at 7 pm. The Bellport High School has rejected requests by a group opposed to military recruiting in the schools to participate in the Job Fair at the High School next Monday May 8. (See May 8 listing for a demonstration being planned to protest the actions of the school.)
The Board of Education meets tonight at the Brookhaven Elementary School at 101 Fireplace Neck Road in Brookhaven Hamlet at 7:30pm.

The first meeting of the support group to free Marting Tankleff will be held Wednesday, May 3rd at 7pm at Hope Lutheran Church, 46 Dare Road, Selden. Media is welcome.
We are forming a group to support Marty and promote ways to further his cause for justice. Now, is the time to organize and demonstrate to public, religious and civic leaders that we have had enough of the lies and coverups! We believe that most people in Suffolk County (and millions throughout the entire globe) feel as we do that Marty is innocent and have lost faith in its criminal justice system!

Join the Suffolk County Transportation Advisory Board and Suffolk County Coalition of Mental Health Services Providers on Friday May 5 from 10 am to 1pm for a Transportation Public Hearing.
We are looking for specific comments about:
• Changes in time schedule of specific routes
• Quality of Service
• Bus stop locations
• Suggested locations for bus shelters and or benches
• About transfer points (locations where you switch buses to make another connection)
• The new transfer policy
Hearings will be held in the Suffolk County Legislative Chambers

May 6 (Saturday):Video on Affordability Housing Crisis in East Hampton at 10am
A Documentary video on "The Affordability Housing Crisis on the South Fork" will be shown at the East Hampton High School Auditorium on Long Lane at 10 am.
A family on the South Fork of Long Island with the current median income of $88,850 is said to be able to afford a $280,000 home.
But the current median home price on the South Fork is $600,000 and rising.
What is the impact of this affordability gap on the recruitment and retention of teachers, hospital workers, skilled tradespeople, firefighters, town, police, bank, business and other key employee groups that keep our towns functioning? What is the impact on young families, senior citizens and retirees?
All community members are invited to discuss this issue at the premiere of a new documentary video produced by the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons and titled “Trouble in Paradise: The Affordability Housing Crisis on the South Fork.”

The Bellport High School College Fair will be held on Monday evening May 8. Counter recruiters have been told they are not invited to share info at this event. Therefore, a demonstration will be held across the street at the Old South Haven Presbyterian Church on the corner of Beaver Dam Road and S. Country Rd. The church is aware of our intentions and has cordially invited us to use their property.
Signs, flyers and petitions will be available, all are welcome and encouraged to join.

"Herstory" Writing Workshops in Spanish and English
Wednesdays in Farmingville: Herstory Writers Workshop meets every Monday afternoon at the Farmingville branch of the Workplace Project from 3 to 5. Both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking women come together to share and shape their life experiences through memoir writing. The workshop is conducted in both English and Spanish.
