Concert To Benefit Nadgia James

We met Nadgia at a gathering in East Hampton some time ago and were shocked to see this item in this week's Southampton Press. a.e.

Guild Hall in East Hampton will be hosting a “Night for Nadgia: Healing Sounds” benefit on Friday, January 27 at 8 p.m. to raise funds for Nadgia James and Miracle House, a New York City halfway house for patients fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Ms. James is an East Hampton resident whose breast cancer has spread to her spine, skull and hip. She is also the mother of a one-year-old daughter, Nia.

The evening will include music from the Belafonte Alumni Band, with Richard Cummings serving as musical director. The band includes accomplished jazz musicians from the bands of Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, Branford Marsalis, Herbie Hancock and Chuck Berry, among others.

Ms. James’s father, John R. Cartwright, a professional musician, producer, composer and arranger, is organizing the event for his daughter.

Mr. Cartwright attended the Manhattan School of Music after completing his military duties in the Air Force Band of the West in 1956.

Tickets are $75, with proceeds to be shared between Ms. James and Miracle House, which is lending Ms. James its non-profit status to help her raise funds for her medical and living needs during treatment.

For more information, call 329-7130; general admission tickets will also be sold at the door.
