For the past few years, the Native American Housing Fund on the Shinnecock Reservation has been repairing unsafe and 'sub-standard' housing with the help of donors from the neighboring communities on the South Fork. The Fund is a project of the Padoquohan Medicine Lodge whose officers include Elizabeth Thunder Bird Haile and Rev. Holly Haile Davis.
A trailer home on the reservation is now beyond repair and this fall the Fund has embarked on a project to replace it with a new house.
Banks can not issue mortgages for homes on an Indian reservation. Our help is needed now to ensure that this project is completed.
