September 30 (Friday): Report Back from Jerusalem Women in Black Conference in Bellport at 7:30pm

Eve Sokol of Bellport Women in Black has returned from the Women in Black Conference in Jerusalem. She will speak about her experiences and show slides of the event and her travels in Israel and Palestine at the UU Fellowship, 51 Brown's Lane in Bellport. The meeting is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

October 1 (Saturday): Counter Military Recruiting Demo in Patchogue 11:00am-1:00pm

Informational leafletting/demonstration at the Patchogue military recruiting station.
Literature for distribution will be available. Bring your signs, your voices. While the military is promoting a position of faux patriotism, we must show true patriotism through dissent.

The recruiting station is located on Main St. just east of N. Ocean Ave.

October 2 (Sunday): Women in Black Vigil for Peace in Bridgehampton at 5pm

The Women in Black vigil is at the Monument / Flagpole in Bridgehampton at the intersection of Ocean Road and Route 27. Women in Black call for an end to the occupation of Palestine and an end to the US occupation of Iraq. Bring the Troops Home Now!

October 9 (Sunday): Benefit &Celebration - South Fork Chapter Long Island Progressive Coalition in East Hampton at 3pm

Join the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the South Fork Chapter of LI Progessive Coalition. Special guest speaker is Michael Ratner, Vice President of the Center for Constitutional Rights. Honorees are Joseph Giannini of the East End Veterans, Linda Kabot, Southampton Town Council, Judy Lerner of Peace Action and Lucius Ware, President of the Eastern LI Branch of NAACP.

The celebration will take place from 3 to 5pm at at 16 Todd Lane, East Hampton, the home of Jean Hoffmann and Eric Kruh. Food will be served.

October 22 (Saturday): NAACP Annual Membership Luncheon in Riverhead at 12 Noon

The Eastern Long Island Branch of the NAACP will hold its annual membership luncheon on Saturday October 22 at theBest Western Hotel, West Main Street, Riverhead. Seating at noon, luncheon starts 1 pm.

We will honor our Life Members, new and from prior years. The Guest of Honor will be Ms.Theo Braunskill, Retiring Affirmative Action Officer of the Town of Southampton.

They are picketing from Monday through Friday, 10 to 4 pm at 75 Industrial Road, Wainscott

"Herstory" Writing Workshops in Spanish and English:

Mondays in Farmingville: Herstory Writers Workshop meets every Monday afternoon at the Farmingville branch of the Workplace Project from 3 to 5. Both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking women come together to share and shape their life experiences through memoir writing. The workshop is conducted in both English and Spanish. Call 631-723-0150 for more information and directions to the center.

Thursdays in East Hampton: Every Thursday women come together to share their writing with one another and receive feedback on how to structure and shape their lifewriting.The East Hampton workshop is open to East Hampton Town residents. It meets every Thursday, 7-9 p.m., at the Senior Citizens Center, 128 Springs-Fireplace Road.
