Long Island peace activists from several groups visited the Melville offices of Senators Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer Wednesday morning.
The activists spoke to staff members and called on both Senators to "retract their votes on the Iraq war" and to state they were mistaken. At least seven peace groups were represented including the Suffolk Peace Network, Pax Christi-Long Island, Unitarian Universalists of Bellport, Women in Black of Bellport and both North Country and South Country Peace Groups.
Staff members for Senators Clinton and Schumer pleaded for more time to get the reaction of the Senators.
The activists have decided to establish Camp Casey Long Island outside 145 Pinelawn Road in Melville where the Senators Long Island offices are located starting next Tuesday between the hours of 4:30 and 6:30 pm.
Activists are requesting help with logistics for next week's vigil which will be from Tuesday Sept 6 to Saturday Sept. 10.
