Peace Activists Will Urge Congressman to Call for Troop Withdrawal

Peace activists have another chance to dialog with Congressman Tim Bishop next Monday in Southampton. The congressman will discuss local and national issues and take questions from the audience at the Rogers Memorial Library on Windmill Lane in Southampton on Monday, January 9 starting at 7pm.

At a meeting last month in Sag Harbor Congressman Bishop said he was considering supporting a congressional resolution calling for prompt US withdrawal from Iraq, but he was "not there yet".

Local peace activists are expected to once again urge Mr. Bishop to call for withdrawing our troops by co-sponsoring a resolution which has been introduced in Congress.

House Joint Resolution 73 – to Re-deploy U.S. Forces from Iraq Introduced by Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) calls for the immediate end to the deployment of U.S. troops in Iraq and declares that the US shall pursue security and stability in Iraq through diplomacy. The resolution also calls for an “over the horizon” presence of the marines in the region. For details and a list of co-sponsors:
